How does Feature Personalization Work?
How feature personalization works
Feature Personalization is the heart of Consensus's Standard Personalization Demo. Instead of forcing every viewer through the same canned demo, the DemoPlayer asks the viewer which features matter most to them — then plays a tailored set of feature videos based on their ratings.
The three-step viewer experience
Step 1: optional Intro Video
If the demo has an Intro Video, it plays first. Use this to set context, introduce yourself, or frame the rest of the demo. Optional — many demos skip it.
Step 2: feature rating
The viewer sees the list of features (configured by the demo creator on Step 3 of the Demo Wizard). For each feature, they rate it as:
- Very Important — the Long Video plays in their personalized demo.
- Somewhat Important — the Short Video plays (or the Long Video if no Short Video was uploaded).
- Not Important — that feature's videos are skipped entirely.

Step 3 of the Demo Wizard — feature list. Each feature in the wizard becomes a rating row for the viewer.
Step 3: personalized playback
Based on the ratings, the DemoPlayer assembles a tailored playlist of feature videos. Order respects the demo wizard order — top features play first, then the rest, in the priority the demo creator set up.
Why this matters for your demo strategy
- Each viewer gets a custom demo without you doing per-viewer configuration.
- Rating data is high-resolution buying signal — Demolytics tells you which features which viewers prioritized, so follow-up conversations focus on what matters.
- Skipped features (rated Not Important) save viewer time, reducing demo length and bounce rate.
- Different stakeholders inside the same organization rate differently — you see the full buying group's priorities when multiple viewers engage with the same DemoBoard.
Designing for personalization
- 5-7 features is the sweet spot. More creates rating fatigue.
- Title features by outcome, not feature name. See "How should I title the features of my demo?"
- Long videos: 1-3 minutes. Short videos: ~⅓ the length of Long.
- Use Intro Docs for content every viewer needs (datasheets, pricing, security overview) regardless of their ratings.
